Wednesday Words – Observations

White sweeps of smeared cloud across china blue sky. Grey patches haze the hot sun, but the breeze is cool. Again I hear faint music. Not loud enough to be annoying but a hint of a song on the edge of hearing. Nearer to me is the steady yet erratic thump thump as the builders across the road rebuild a roof. A multitude of wood pigeons call, answer and reprise the same song over and over again. I never tire of hearing it. It is relaxing. The song of summer and holiday. A motion catches my eye. There is a grey squirrel in the middle of the yard, not two feet from me. His is undaunted by my presence. Will he go after my snack? (Nuts and dates) Or will he go for the meat thawing by the back porch? Dark eyes observe, nostrils flare, he scampers past me, beneath the car and I hear his passage through the beech hedge. Leaves rustle and fall silent.

Beautiful poetic imaginary… Very metaphorical, dear Freya! 🙂
