Haunting

Haunting

This Freyan Verse was inspired by the deaths of 3 close writing friends between January 2014 and June 2015. It also reflects on my own brushes with death between July 2014 and January 2015. Click on the link to find out how to read this poem both vertically and horizontally. You can write your own, if you wish!

Haunting Verses 1 – 3

3 July, 2017

Here are the first three verses of my Freyan Verse, Haunting. How would you go about finishing constructing this form? This poem was inspired by death and memories of the dead people that kept returning to me.

Haunting Verse 1

26 June, 2017

Here is the first verse of my Freyan Verse, Haunting. It’s about death, how I lost people and nearly died myself a few years ago. How would you build on this first verse to create your own? I will post verses 1 -3 next week to show you how I built this particular poem.

The Essence of Thyme …

16 December, 2016

Magical plots abound in The Essence of Thyme. Parsley’s mysterious visitor is not known to Dracomagan. Why did Merlin send Nimue instead of visiting Parsley himself? Who caused the enchanted forest to spring up before Castle Thyme? Why is Lord Thyme’s son, Tym, a sleeping prisoner? How can the friends release him from such tangled spells?

Parsley is on a quest to find her true love. But a tangled forest blocks her way. A promise has been made in the form of a riddle that needs unravelling. She has been chosen so a path will be found, but only a ruby tear will open the way…

An oblique re-telling of Sleeping Beauty. The Essence of Thyme allows Parsley the limelight (for once) as she pursues her dream of finding a handsome prince and true love. But messages from Merlin come in the form of riddles. Just who is this mysterious Nimue? Why has an enchanted forest suddenly appeared before Castle Thyme? Can Parsley and Dracomagan solve the riddle and break the spell before it’s too late?

It was good to be back in the world of Dracomagan. This was a short story with the same characters as Dragsonscale Leggings and I enjoyed it a lot. I love Dracogmagan’s character. She’s great: irreverent, mouthy and full of attitude. I would have liked the story to be longer and I hope there will be more of these short stories set in the same universe. Doctor Wolf

This is such a delightful series to read. Essence of Thyme is quirky, fun, and imaginative, and Dracomagan and Parsley are a duo to be reckoned with, potato peeler and all! Great job! K Johnston

I really enjoyed The Essence of Thyme, the reversed Sleeping Beauty thing worked really well. I also love Dracomagan’s “otherworldliness”. J Poulter

Even the brief exchanges among the characters show fully developed beings with meaningful traits, roles, and tendencies. Their interaction is amusing, natural, and shows shared understanding and affection, referring either to an established relationship or one that has scarcely begun yet feels inevitable. Your story offers an intriguing and unique combination of the familiar and the strange. K Maher

The Rusalka Ritual …

15 December, 2016

Five tales set in fantastic locations; an arid canyon, a smoke-wreathed ale house, a moonlit sea, a haunted inn and a golf course …

Five tales encompassing human emotion; expectations disappointed, self-sacrificing love for the unlovable, will power that overcomes dark enchantment, bravery in the face of evil and fear of the unknown in hum-drum life …

Five narrative voices ranging from a young child, a redeemed murderer, a strong-willed young woman, damsels awaiting rescue and a retired banker haunted by death …

Available at Amazon UK, Amazon US, iTunes, Nook, Kobo, Page Foundry and Scribd

These tales are very unusual and unpredictable; fantastic and full of optimism. A Winter

These are suspenseful stories. I want to read more. U Gohla

Such intriguing tales… Where can I buy more? J Poulter

I present another collaboration between myself and my good friend, Patricia Spork. This lantune sequence was written between us as a way of encouraging me to write about what I have been through with both my cancer and death in my immediate family. You can read our first collaboration over at Pure Haiku at Parasitic Predator

Transformed ends…

28 January, 2016
Thank you for travelling with me as I introduced my new form poetry, freyan verse, to the world.
I hope you have enjoyed reading my poems Transformed and Fishers. If you would like to have a go at writing your own freyan verse, I would love to see them.
For now, though, I will be taking a break from Dragonscale Clippings until the end of March. Tomorrow I start blogging again over at Pure Haiku where my guests and I will be writing on the theme of Spheres… I hope you can join us there.
