Escape Pod Emulation for Sharmishtha Basu

5 December, 2016

Here is another Escape Pod Emulation! A warm welcome to writer and editor, Sharmishtha Basu!
I tap the code into the keypad to access my escape pod with a beating heart. I can hear the soft voice of AI Oceana on every speaker, urging us to hurry to pack our five indispensable items and enter our epods immediately. The attack has not came out of the blue; we have been evading it for some time. The intensity was a surprise though! We never thought we would have to desert the mother ship. I glance at the five things in my hands and then allow the rays to scan my retina.
The most important item I carry is my personal computer containing every little piece of my life that has meant something to me, from earth and thereafter. I cannot imagine my life without it.
Then there’s the charger and the small speaker attached to it. I was never a big fan of headphones. I have always preferred speakers. And of course, the large photo from my altar; that is as important as life to me, I can’t spend a night without it, forget about being lost in space!
My last item is my personal book-reader, containing hundreds of books…
The door opens soundlessly and I enter my personal pod. As I settle on the chair the security belt gently embraces me, like a hug of a dear friend. I close my eyes and pray my friends and colleagues have made it to their epods safely…
