Melodic Meanderings

4 December, 2017
I usually produce a post with lots of mini reviews of books I have enjoyed reading over the last few months. However, this year, due to moving house and starting up a new business, I have not had time to read anything. Shocking, I know, but I no longer have any time to myself. I’m hoping to get lots of reading done over the winter, but there is still a lot to do on the business in the quiet season. So, this time, I’m reviewing Dwell, a cd that really helped me through a very difficult summer.
Memorable melodies and lingering lyrics. This cd was the perfect gift at a very difficult time. Being able to listen to it, albeit in small snatches, allowed me to stay sane in an extremely stressful time.

Not since I discovered the music of Iona in the 1990s, has a cd had such a profound effect on me. Hearing it gives me goosebumps. I find it both relaxing and challenging. When I first listened to it, I felt like a dry sponge soaking up cold, refreshing water.
Dwell speaks to me on many levels; mental, spiritual and emotional, and it allowed me to relax physically. I find myself drawn in particular to tracks 2 & 9. Track 2, Dwell, is incredibly reassuring and up-lifting. Track 9, Come O Spirit of God, is challenging, inspiring and strengthening. These two tracks have lyrics that have stuck in my memory and I find myself singing them as I go about my daily business.
Buy this cd for yourself and experience Julie Palmer’s enchanting voice, the haunting and inspiring harmonies, as well as the encouragement of the bible verses spoken over the music.
You can buy the album at Dwell.

Vintrig’s Throne

20 November, 2017

The power struggle that began in Vintrig’s Kingdom continues in the sequel …
Darkness, romance and intrigue! Blood, death and sacrifice! You’ll find all these and more in Vintrig’s Throne.
If you were left wondering what happened to Isu Magan and Sama Conn, you can now find out!
Isu Magan, heir to Vintrig’s Throne, has fallen in love with Sama Conn, a travelling musician. Fearing to lose her promised inheritance, Isu is unwilling to show her true feelings for the man she loves. Terrified of her Counsellor Jya, Isu is forced to meet with Sama in secret. When Isu takes the crown that is hers by right, it seems that everything will change for the better. But Jya, always working in the shadows, has many plans and as the net draws around Isu and Sama, a violent blizzard once again holds Vintrig’s Kingdom its cruel grip. Isu finds herself on trial for her life and only one thing can rescue her; the Law of Substitution. Will true love triumph over hatred and fear? Will the reign of winter end? Or will darkness spread its victorious wings over Vintrig’s Castle?
This is an unusual fantasy novel. The plot does not revolve around a physical quest to gain or lose an object of power. Instead, this story is about the journey of a soul to distinguish truth from lie and to discover who she really is …
It is available NOW at Amazon UK, Amazon US, Kobo, Barnes&Noble and iTunes.
Check out my short teaser film about it at YouTube
Currently available as an e-book, the paperback will be released in 2018.

Vintrig’s Kingdom

28 November, 2016

The countdown has ended! Today is THE day!
At last – my new novel is available!
If you’re looking for a good book to read on a cold winter’s night, this is the novel for you! The tale combines romance, mystery, enchantment, eternal winter, treachery and a struggle for power. What more could you want?
Isu Magan is the central character. She is a virgin princess beset by taboos and waiting for her coronation day, when she will, at last, gain control of Vintrig’s Kingdom. But many things distract her, not least the itinerant musician, Sama Conn (remember him from Dragonscale Leggings?) and a Journal that appears to contradict her Counsellor’s view of history…

Wednesday Words – Observations

10 June, 2015
White sweeps of smeared cloud across china blue sky. Grey patches haze the hot sun, but the breeze is cool. Again I hear faint music. Not loud enough to be annoying but a hint of a song on the edge of hearing. Nearer to me is the steady yet erratic thump thump as the builders across the road rebuild a roof. A multitude of wood pigeons call, answer and reprise the same song over and over again. I never tire of hearing it. It is relaxing. The song of summer and holiday. A motion catches my eye. There is a grey squirrel in the middle of the yard, not two feet from me. His is undaunted by my presence. Will he go after my snack? (Nuts and dates) Or will he go for the meat thawing by the back porch? Dark eyes observe, nostrils flare, he scampers past me, beneath the car and I hear his passage through the beech hedge. Leaves rustle and fall silent.
