Emergence …

13 January, 2019

Pure Haiku is currently OPEN to Submissions.

The THEME is EMERGENCE.

This time, you are not allowed to use the word Emergence in your haiku/senyru (and you cannot use this word in the title, if you choose to provide titles for your submissions). I want to receive haiku/senyru that are implicit in their mentions of EMERGENCE.

The OED defines the word EMERGENCE as “The process of becoming visible after being concealed.” Further definitions can be found at Oxford Dictionaries.

Delight me and surprise me with your haiku that paint vivid pictures of EMERGENCE. Don’t be confined to the obvious, be subtle, be clever, be imaginative! As always I’m looking for excellent use of language and words that conjure up clear, vivid pictures; show, don’t tell.

There will be 28 slots for individual haiku plus space for up to 5 days for a single featured haiku writer.

The DEADLINE for submissions is 25th January 2019 at midnight.

EMERGENCE themed haiku written in the traditional/classical form (5-7-5 syllables) will be posted on this site between March & April 2019.

Understanding – something different

30 September, 2016
This post is instead of a re-blog this week!
Those of you who follow me over at Pure Haiku, may already know M Sakran. He’s had a number of haiku published at Pure Haiku and has now brought out his first poetry collection called Understanding
There are 20 poems in the collection and each one has an extensive explanation to it. The poet reveals his original intentions, how things changed as he worked on the poetry and also explains why the form of each poem was chosen.
I was very honoured to be asked to write the Foreword to Understanding and would encourage you to buy this up-coming poet’s first collection.
M Sakran has several blogs, one of which can be found at M Sakran’s blog.

butterfly cinquains flit away…

8 September, 2016
Thank you for following me through my journey with Butterfly Cinquains. I hope you enjoyed them and were inspired to write your own! A couple more of these cinquains may find their way into my blog posts in the future…
I will be continuing to blog here, but with some ch-ch-changes…
I will also be blogging at Pure Haiku where my guests and I will be exploring the meaning of LEAF. I hope you can join us there on 16th September 2016.
I am taking a very short break from this blog, but will be back here once more on Monday, 19th September 2016… See you all then!

Digital Detox…

30 June, 2016
Just a quick note to let you all know that I’m going to have a digital detox for a couple of weeks…
It won’t be a 100% detox as I will be posting rewards at Patreon and closing Pure Haiku to submissions. But I won’t be around to respond to Likes, Comments & Follows.
I have scheduled some posts to appear as usual and will start responding to emails etc on or after 18th July 2016. See you all again then!
NEWSFLASH!
One of my Freyan Verses, Turbulence, appears in the current issue of Gold Dust! It’s on page 47 and it’s the first time an editor has been adventurous enough to accept and print a Freyan Verse! Another poem, Yellow Dust, appears on page 37. Take a look for free at Issue 29
Spillwords have also recently published two of my haiku at Hollowed Landscape and This Long Killer Jaw. Three more are due to appear in July…

Clean away…

29 April, 2016
Thank you for reading my “clippings” about Housewifery! It’s time now to put the dyson back in its cupboard and to give the dusters a wash.
I’m working on a number of drafts (new writing is still hard to come by) and earlier this week I launched myself at Patreon. You can watch my first ever video by clicking on the link; find out what I really look and sound like!
I’m taking another break from this blog until late June.
Meanwhile, I will be blogging once more at Pure Haiku. My guest haiku writers and I will be exploring CANCER over the next few weeks. Yesterday I shared a haiku sequence written as a collaboration with one of my friends. Hope to see you there!
