The Day of Weird

24 January, 2020

Today marks the launch of my paperback, The Day of Weird!

The Day of Weird Paperback Cover

The Day of Weird Paperback Cover

Erl looked up and saw something large and black descending through the rags of mist. Large webbed wings flapped with ponderous regularity and a fanged maw gaped open, emitting lightning and fire. Fear rooted Erl to the ground. This was something he had never seen before. Perhaps someone had once told him stories about such monsters, but never had he known such horror.

The ground shook beneath their feet as lightning flickered almost constantly. Erl’s fear increased as the monster descended and opened its fang-filled mouth. Then Otta pushed him aside and stepped out into the storm. Not knowing why, he tried to stop her. Erl reached out but hesitated to touch her. There was an energy about her that shimmered and danced all over her body. Fear washed through him, churning in his belly. Why was he frightened of his sister?

“Leave us!” Otta shouted into the howling night. Her voice sounded strange, as if someone else was speaking through her.

The smell of sulphur increased, then the beast flung up its head. Fearing the worst, Erl tried to grab Otta’s shoulder but felt as though he had burnt himself where his hand touched her clothes …

The Day of Weird contains the first three volumes of The Kaerling; Silver Fire, Ambassador and An Ancient Song. If you want to read the first book of The Kaerling as I intended it to be read, buy the paperback now!

Pursued by villagers for angering the gods, Otta seeks to evade capture whilst following the Unicorn’s Trail. She must deal with the dark side of her character and the memory loss of her twin as the influence of the kaerlings becomes more pronounced. Where will the Unicorn’s Trail lead her?

This paperback is available at Amazon UK and Amazon US and other Amazon stores.

Videos about The Kaerling can be found at Volume One, Volume Two, Volume Three and TDOW.

Happy reading!

Another extract from Vintrig’s Throne …

20 February, 2018
Isu Magan, Queen of Vintrig’s Kingdom is in love with Sama Conn; but she is forbidden to marry. After the crowning ceremony and celebrations, Isu and Sama steal some time alone in the Library but are rudely interupted by Sergeant Aurik …
Aurik attacked, trying to chop the torch in two. But the wood had been treated and his arms jarred as he smote the wooden length. Sama counterattacked and Aurik had to duck and spin aside to avoid the flaming head. Against her will, Isu was impressed at how agile Aurik was. Sama waded in, not waiting for the sergeant to recover, and forced him back towards the opposite doorway. Both men were breathing heavily and sweat glistened red in the ruddy light.

Then it seemed that Sama changed tactic and step by step retreated towards Isu. Her heart laboured in her chest. Was he injured? Aurik smiled slowly as Sama retreated, wielding his torch in imitation of a sword. The sergeant winked and leered over Sama’s shoulder at Isu. She felt her cheeks redden and looked around for something to defend herself with.
Abruptly Sama came to a halt, a good way from the wall.
“Tired out, singer?” Aurik sneered.
Blade and torch wove through the air with neither man giving ground. A movement in the doorway across the room caught her eye. Remembering what Aurik had said about Jya and his servants, she screamed.
The sound of her cry caught Aurik off guard and he span round as Sama fell to the floor and rolled over. Out of the darkness, a silver blade gleamed and sped towards the sergeant. Isu couldn’t see who was standing in the doorway and opened her mouth for another scream. The scream came, but not from Isu. The silver blade embedded itself in Aurik’s sword arm …
