The Essence of Thyme …

16 December, 2016

Magical plots abound in The Essence of Thyme. Parsley’s mysterious visitor is not known to Dracomagan. Why did Merlin send Nimue instead of visiting Parsley himself? Who caused the enchanted forest to spring up before Castle Thyme? Why is Lord Thyme’s son, Tym, a sleeping prisoner? How can the friends release him from such tangled spells?

Parsley is on a quest to find her true love. But a tangled forest blocks her way. A promise has been made in the form of a riddle that needs unravelling. She has been chosen so a path will be found, but only a ruby tear will open the way…

An oblique re-telling of Sleeping Beauty. The Essence of Thyme allows Parsley the limelight (for once) as she pursues her dream of finding a handsome prince and true love. But messages from Merlin come in the form of riddles. Just who is this mysterious Nimue? Why has an enchanted forest suddenly appeared before Castle Thyme? Can Parsley and Dracomagan solve the riddle and break the spell before it’s too late?

It was good to be back in the world of Dracomagan. This was a short story with the same characters as Dragsonscale Leggings and I enjoyed it a lot. I love Dracogmagan’s character. She’s great: irreverent, mouthy and full of attitude. I would have liked the story to be longer and I hope there will be more of these short stories set in the same universe. Doctor Wolf

This is such a delightful series to read. Essence of Thyme is quirky, fun, and imaginative, and Dracomagan and Parsley are a duo to be reckoned with, potato peeler and all! Great job! K Johnston

I really enjoyed The Essence of Thyme, the reversed Sleeping Beauty thing worked really well. I also love Dracomagan’s “otherworldliness”. J Poulter

Even the brief exchanges among the characters show fully developed beings with meaningful traits, roles, and tendencies. Their interaction is amusing, natural, and shows shared understanding and affection, referring either to an established relationship or one that has scarcely begun yet feels inevitable. Your story offers an intriguing and unique combination of the familiar and the strange. K Maher

lilac moonlight …

17 November, 2016

I enjoyed reading the third episode of The Oil of Sage. And I also loved Shadorma 6, it really appealed to me… E Stoker
Elfje 12 is so creative! I like how you compared the colors of autumn to that of rust which made it visually rich. Oil of Sage continues to excite me and it made me wonder if the crystal ball is the key to overcoming Nimue…can’t wait for the next episode! E Choi
Your pyramid poem was spot on. I have often thought of myself as a writer without words just lately. But sometimes there really are no words to describe the things that happen around us and to us. I do like the theme you have going in the small poems included in the zine. The theme of the planets is very atmospheric. I think number 6 is my favourite; Lilac moonlight that pierces the soul is a wonderful poetic suggestion. And thank you again for Dracomagan. Lovely writing and humour. And the analogy of “…pink as a summer rose…” to describe blushing is just gorgeous. Linda Turner

Domestic Observations …

25 October, 2016

Lantune 3 – that struck me deeply and I found it most haunting. As for Merlin becoming intrigued – he’s not the only one! It is now a case of watch this space! S Evans

Your domestic observations are absolutely lovely! They are alive and tangible and audible and visual and aural. Just what poetry should be. As for Dracomagan – it goes without saying that I love her and everything she does. L Turner

The Oil of Sage – episode 3

26 September, 2016

“We spent three days scouring the countryside for him, together with all Lord Thyme’s people, but it was as if he’d been spirited away. Can you help us, Merlin?”
The old man lost his train of thought and stared into those pale blue eyes; cold like moonlit steel. He couldn’t remember Dracomagan ever asking him for help before.
“I’m not asking for myself,” she said hastily. “But Lord Thyme is one of my most loyal subjects and besides, Parsley has rather a crush on Tym.”
Parsley blushed as pink as a summer rose and Sorrel laughed.
“How long will that last?” The tall woman mocked her affectionately.
“Can you?” Dracomagan ignored Sorrel’s banter, still staring at Merlin.
“I might.”
“Good.” Her Majesty turned her attention to the cold soup, mopping it up with a hunk of bread.
“I need more information though.” Merlin said reluctantly. He hated getting involved with Dracomagan’s adventures. In his experience, things always took a turn for the worse…
