Changes …

I’m no longer able to use Facebook! It takes so long to load that I very often can’t read other peoples’ posts, or, if I can read them, I can’t respond to them. I also can’t always schedule posts on my Author Page. Very frustrating! So please don’t try to contact me via Facebook because I’m only checking in there every 1-2 months. If you need to contact me, either send an email to freya.pickard@gmail.com or leave a comment on this site.

Other News

Jonathon B. Hoyt with whom I have collaborated over the years in both my Newsletter and for the covers of my books, now has his very own blog! Please take a look and follow and like if you enjoy his work at Jonathon B. Hoyt.

Pure Haiku is once again CLOSED to submissions. Selected haiku from the theme of Volcano, will be appearing between 1st September and 30th November. Sign up to Pure Haiku to receive notifications! And thank you to everyone who sent in their haiku for my consideration!

August is a Rest Month for me so I won’t be online now until the beginning of September. I intend to work on my vampire poetry, read a lot of paperbacks, create pastel and watercolour pictures, listen to music and rest… See you in the autumn!

Much love Freya xxx

FREE Books!

8 June, 2022

Two things to tell you about today!

Firstly, my second poetry collection, My Mythology is currently FREE at iBooks, Nook, Kobo and many other online stores. And, if you’re not yet signed up to my newsletter, you can download My Mythology for FREE when you sign up only at My Book Cave! I’ve managed to get the price down to 99c on all Amazon marketplaces – for some reason, Amazon don’t like me giving my books away… If you’ve not read my poetry before, My Mythology is a really good introduction to the way my creative brain works and what my life is like!

A collection of poems inspired by myth and legend. Will you dare to walk on the fringes of fear or glance into the blank mirror? Are you brave enough to stand before the thunder god or receive the sun lord’s gifts? Can you survive the bewitching ocean song or escape from zombie mushrooms?

Secondly, my book, Silver Fire, is part of a wonderful Giveaway at the Summer Book Bash which runs until 30th June! Check it out before it’s too late and stock up on your summer holiday reading! If you’ve not yet started The Kaerling series, downloading Silver Fire for FREE is a brilliant way to get into the series!

Banished from their village, Otta, and her twin brother Erl, (who has lost his memory), must stay ahead of those who seek to kill them. Learning how to follow the unicorn’s trail and deal with her brother’s dark side, Otta must keep them both safe as she attempts to follow the commands of a shrineless god. This epic fantasy tale is a FREE download and begins the saga of The Kaerling.

Hidden Lands

15 September, 2020

“Beautifully written and it held my attention from start to finish.” E Baxter

Grey, crumpled bark, like ossified wrinkles spiralled around the trunk and up into the branches. It was not a tree he was familiar with but he stared at it, seeing the silver lichen that grew in tiny clusters on each rise of bark, leaving the dips in the tree’s skin dark and shadowed. The leaves above his head rustled faintly, although no breeze touched Lored’s cheek.

Tearing his eyes from the bark, the taku-kevir stared up at the rippling pattern of yellow light and green shadow. Each leaf had a serrated edge and pale veins branched in pairs from the centre. Although the sun did not appear to be shining, golden light glowed above the leaves, illuminating Lored’s face. He kept his head bent back, drinking in the other-light as if it was Power itself. The leaves flickered, shivered and fell still. The shadows ceased shifting and it was as if Lored stared into a bowl of sunshine.

The pack pony snorted nervously, breaking the spell. Lored stared around, wondering why he had stopped. He felt a shiver of recognition slip down his spine. No breeze and the leaves around him still moved. He had forgotten that the trees were more alive here in Zorat, that the whole forest responded to the will and command of the Zoratti …

This is a short extract from Hidden Lands, Volume Five of The Kaerling! This is one of the hidden lands that Lored, the taku-kevir from Olin Heon re-discovers during the course of the tale.

The Day of Weird

24 January, 2020

Today marks the launch of my paperback, The Day of Weird!

The Day of Weird Paperback Cover

The Day of Weird Paperback Cover

Erl looked up and saw something large and black descending through the rags of mist. Large webbed wings flapped with ponderous regularity and a fanged maw gaped open, emitting lightning and fire. Fear rooted Erl to the ground. This was something he had never seen before. Perhaps someone had once told him stories about such monsters, but never had he known such horror.

The ground shook beneath their feet as lightning flickered almost constantly. Erl’s fear increased as the monster descended and opened its fang-filled mouth. Then Otta pushed him aside and stepped out into the storm. Not knowing why, he tried to stop her. Erl reached out but hesitated to touch her. There was an energy about her that shimmered and danced all over her body. Fear washed through him, churning in his belly. Why was he frightened of his sister?

“Leave us!” Otta shouted into the howling night. Her voice sounded strange, as if someone else was speaking through her.

The smell of sulphur increased, then the beast flung up its head. Fearing the worst, Erl tried to grab Otta’s shoulder but felt as though he had burnt himself where his hand touched her clothes …

The Day of Weird contains the first three volumes of The Kaerling; Silver Fire, Ambassador and An Ancient Song. If you want to read the first book of The Kaerling as I intended it to be read, buy the paperback now!

Pursued by villagers for angering the gods, Otta seeks to evade capture whilst following the Unicorn’s Trail. She must deal with the dark side of her character and the memory loss of her twin as the influence of the kaerlings becomes more pronounced. Where will the Unicorn’s Trail lead her?

This paperback is available at Amazon UK and Amazon US and other Amazon stores.

Videos about The Kaerling can be found at Volume One, Volume Two, Volume Three and TDOW.

Happy reading!
