Butterfly Cinquain 10

earthern
mysteries are
dark but not always as
deathly as they seem; fragrant soil
alive
with potential for life as worms
bring oxygen into
darkness – seeds live
again

Butterfly Cinquain 8

31 August, 2016
blind worm
writhes, knots himself
into a pink and red
cat’s cradle, I slice the earth clod
and he
tumbles into utter darkness
as the brown soil crumbles,
no tomb for him –
he’s home

Can a seed see where its new growth is? No, not in the soil. It’s blind and has to wait. The seed has to die. If it doesn’t die, it won’t grow from a hard capsule full of potential to a soggy mass in the soil. I feel like that sad, soggy outer casing; everything’s trickled out…
