poignant & powerful …

27 September, 2016

Pleasant reading Dragonscale Clippings. Enjoyed Episode 2 of “The Oil of Sage”, and all your poems, especially Housewife 3 with “flump-flump of porridge”. You got the sound sensation just right with that description. P Spork (Episode Two)
Many thanks for these clippings; I am enjoying your writing here and your insights. M Callow (Episode One)
Your haiku are poignant and powerful. Good to see that you haven’t lost your creativity. I really love “The Oil of Sage”. Your writing ability hasn’t faltered at all. I especially like: “The scent of sage penetrated mind and soul, unwound tense muscles, released the ‘must do’ list in his head. Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale. Peace. Quiet. Room now to decide what to do next …” There is some deeply thought-through literary expression here. L Turner (Episode One)

The Oil of Sage – episode 3

26 September, 2016

“We spent three days scouring the countryside for him, together with all Lord Thyme’s people, but it was as if he’d been spirited away. Can you help us, Merlin?”
The old man lost his train of thought and stared into those pale blue eyes; cold like moonlit steel. He couldn’t remember Dracomagan ever asking him for help before.
“I’m not asking for myself,” she said hastily. “But Lord Thyme is one of my most loyal subjects and besides, Parsley has rather a crush on Tym.”
Parsley blushed as pink as a summer rose and Sorrel laughed.
“How long will that last?” The tall woman mocked her affectionately.
“Can you?” Dracomagan ignored Sorrel’s banter, still staring at Merlin.
“I might.”
“Good.” Her Majesty turned her attention to the cold soup, mopping it up with a hunk of bread.
“I need more information though.” Merlin said reluctantly. He hated getting involved with Dracomagan’s adventures. In his experience, things always took a turn for the worse…

Sensations of Peace

23 June, 2016
The scene setting immediately brings sensations of peace; calm after a hard days work. Our interest is peaked by a reference “She” – with a capital, so someone important, significant, powerful. Our sympathies align with Merlin as his carefully constructed peace is shattered. Dracomagan is revealed as the “She” as the dialogue unravels, and each significant character is introduced without ceremony. Dracomagan is clearly a woman on a mission and blessed with the absolute certainty that her word is law and that there is no possibility that her whims will go unfulfilled! An interesting beginning – where will it lead next? J Poulter
I sympathised with Merlin as his peace and intentions were unexpectedly interrupted so accurately expressed by you as many will associate with. I prefer your Freyan Verses to haiku and elfje. For me, they flow better and have more depth. On saying that, I appreciated Haiku 6… S Evans
Enjoyed reading Dragonscale Clippings, looking forward to the next episode of The Oil of Sage. Also liked the haiku and elfje, both of these forms of poetry are new to me and I’m gradually beginning to get to like them. R Wyatt

The Oil of Sage – episode 2

20 June, 2016
Merlin turned his eyes on Her Majesty, Dracomagan The First, Queen of Camelot II and ruler of the known world. Her long hair hung in lank braids, some of which were coming undone. Her face was spattered with mud and her clothes, which might have once been green or maybe blue, were a uniform brown colour. Her dragonscale leggings were clean. The rest of her looked as though she’d been pulled through a hedge backwards and then dumped in a muddy puddle.
“What you looking at?” Her Majesty asked him rudely.
“Not sure.” Merlin frowned…
