Escape Pod Emulations

7 October, 2016

The mothership is under attack and your section of the craft has been ordered to evacuate. You rush to the nearest e-pod bay, tap in your personal code and allow the invisible beams to read your eye data. The round door slides open and you leap inside, hearing the whoosh of the door sealing itself behind you.

You are in a small, spherical chamber. When you reach your arms above your head, you can just touch the ceiling. When you stretch your arms out to the sides you can touch the blank panels.

Already the engines are humming and the computer provides you with information on the screen before the single chair. You sit down and the safety belts snuggle around you like comforting arms. The curved walls vibrate as the mothership jettisons the e-pods from your section.

You are alone. The computer will provide you with recycled oxygen and water and your daily nutrient needs will be catered for in the form of energy bars. You can tap into any film, documentary or newscast that the computer has in its memory banks. You cannot communicate with the other escapees for fear that the enemy attacking the mothership will track you. You can watch your course as you spiral away into the dark, glowing vastness of space.

The Interplanetary Space Guild will of course rescue you, eventually. Meanwhile, you have a lot of time on your hands and you can’t spend it all sleeping. (The console chair moves back to become your bed and above your head is a portable gym that the computer will ensure you use daily).

Before you left your quarters to reach the e-pod, you were allowed to choose 5 items to take with you…

What 5 items would you choose?

Find out which 5 items my guests took with them in forthcoming Escape Pod Emulation posts!

The first interview will appear on Monday, 10th October and I hope to make this a monthly feature!

Want to be considered for an interview in 2017? The best way to attract my attention is to buy my books, post some lovely reviews about them on Amazon and or on your blog, re-blog and share my posts and follow me on social media!

Inspiration – An Invitation

2 May, 2014
For the first time ever, I am opening my Wednesday Words slots to guest writers.
I would like to post a series of writings on the subject of what inspires you as a writer / musician / artist / dancer / craftsman etc and am looking for short, concise pieces of writing. These posts will appear between August and November this year.
Focusing on just one of your creative outlets eg writing, fix on one thing only that inspires you to write. What is it? How does it inspire you? What has it made you write / re-write? How do you feel when you are inspired to write? You have just 200 words in which to describe your Inspiration.
If you would like me to consider your piece of writing, (200 words maximum) please send it in the body of an email to dragonscaleclippings (at) gmail (dot) com Please ensure you include your first name, surname, blog address and a one line biography. In the Subject Line please include the words Inspiration Submission and your surname. (Sorry, but submissions via comments / G+ or FB messages won’t be considered). Please DO NOT send attachments.
Closing date for submissions is 30 June 2014. Please allow 3-4 weeks for a reply. I look forward to reading your work!

What I Live For (why I write)

10 May, 2013
I dream dreams and want to find out what happens next. I hear voices in my head, discover characters begging for freedom, to be let loose on the page. I believe I have many things the world needs to hear. Plots and stories well up inside me. If I don’t write these things down, I feel like I am going to explode.
I enjoy writing about the ordinary things of everyday life, how special each thing is; a germinating seed, the first flower of spring, the cry of a buzzard, the piercing song of the robin, the sun’s warmth on my skin, a friendly smile. I love to write about fantastic situations, creatures and events. I take the ordinary and make it extraordinary.
I don’t want to capture scenes or emotions. Rather, I want to set them free. I want to make images and feelings come to life, to trigger a response in my readers. Writing frees my inner self, allows me to put into words what cannot or should not be spoken. Writing helps me to resolve things within my soul. I am Me. I write. It is my life.
